Possible funding cuts to medical research in the May Budget threaten Australia's world-class research position.

Medical research has led to Australians living longer more enjoyable lives and Australias medical researchers are known as some of the best in the world.

But medical research funding is rumoured to be cut by the Australian government in its May Budget putting the long-term rewards for the Australian community on hold.

Naturally APESMA is concerned about these possible cuts to the grants available through the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council and believes there's a real need to play an active role in protecting medical research funding.

APESMA is an active member of the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technical Societies (FASTS). Through this membership we maximise the voice and interests of our Professional Scientists members. FASTS has co-signed a letter which was distributed to all MPs and Senators. Read the letter here .

We are supporting the Discoveries Need Dollars campaign against the proposed funding cuts to medical research and urge you to visit their website and:

We encourage members to support the campaign to ensure the Government understands your views on this important research funding stream before the Commonwealth Budget is delivered on 10 May.
