National Check Your Pay Day

Monday 16 July is National Check Your Pay Day - APESMA recommends all members take some time to check that you are paid the right amount.
Jacki Baulch from APESMA said most members would have received their first pay slip for the financial year by Monday giving people the chance to make sure they are not being underpaid.
“Apart from being good practice to check your pay regularly, many things change on 1 July that could affect your pay packet,” Ms Baulch said.
“Many employers promise pay increases that take effect in the new financial year, EBAs often stipulate pay increases on this date and of course there are new income tax rates this year.”
Ms Baulch said every year APESMA members call the association’s Workplace Advice and Support team after noticing discrepancies in their pay packet.
“While most employers do the right thing its worth a quick check to make sure you are getting what you deserve,” Ms Baulch said.
“But if you do find something out of the ordinary APESMA has a team of experts who can help you discuss this with your employer.”

Hi, and thank you for the reminder. Am a long time member of APESMA, and past secretary of our local work branch, and I really appreciate what we can do as a team. Keep up the good work.
Am not sure whether this issue falls into your domain, or whether I should refer it to my APESMA industrial rep (I think it is Margaret Buchanan). Please let me know one way or the other by return email to << johnminski@bigpond.com >> . Thanks.
Our current EBA was due for renewal on 1July2012, and I understand that negotiations for the next period are currently underway. As I am about to be made redundant on 7th August 2012 (my exit date from Qantas), I emailed my HR rep the following question: Would you ask Payroll whether the estimate (ie my final payout) will also be boosted by the 3% July 1 increase per the PE EBA.
I did not get a written response, but was advised by phone that as the current EBA has not been ratified by FWA, I would NOT be entitled to the increase.
To my way of thinking, this is unfair. If I am still employed by Qantas on July 1, 2012 (regardless of being made redundant on August 7, 2012), I should get the EBA increase effective from July1. In other words, I should not be discriminated against because the EBA is ratified after my exit date whilst other employees (who remain employed) receive back pay entitlement to July 1,
I would appreciate the opinion of APESMA's industial experts,
Thanks and regards,
